ARE YOU READY FOR SOME CHIEF'S FOOTBALL? It's the season opener against Tom Brady's New England Patriots and we're planning on you tailgating with us after church this coming Sunday, September 7th. BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO SHARE THE DAY!!! Worship is at 9:20 and the party will start around 10:30 so come in casual/Chiefs attire. We'll be serving up grilled chicken breast sandwiches and hot dogs with all meat, buns, and tableware provided ... you are invited to bring a side dish or a dessert to share if you haven't already been contacted by your Small Group leader. Planning on a Punt, Pass, and Kick competition for the kids, face painting, football trivia, best team picks, other activities for kids

Christianity - Boring, Untrue, Irrelevant?

The Alpha study at Pointe of Hope is a basic course of introduction to the Christian faith helping to answer some of the “big questions of life” that people wrestle with. At Pointe of Hope, it is also a first step towards becoming full voting member followed by the Pastor’s Pointe Class. It is important that everyone should be given the opportunity to receive the basics of the Christian faith, often for the very first time or simply as a refresher course to help share their faith with their friends and family. Invite someone to join you as you go through this course. The course lasts 10 weeks, and is a video-based program developed by Nicky Gumbel covering all the basic issues of Christianity. Each session a video presentation followed by a small group discussion of the material presented. This Fall we will be meeting on Wednesday evenings from 6:30–8:00 pm. Come join us for an informative evening, bringing your questions and exploring what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century.

LIFE ON LOAN …
ALL CHURCH STUDY

Beginning September 14^th, Pointe of Hope is kicking off a church-wide experience, Living a Life on Loan. This 6- week study will use a book written by Rick Rusaw and Eric Swanson as well as a DVD and study guide. The actual study will be done weekly through our Small Groups ministry, so if you’re not already attached to a group currently, we encourage you to attend one of the existing ones. We have groups meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening as well as three groups that meet on Sunday. There is also the possibility that a couple of other Small Groups will be forming. Contact Jean in the church office, 220-2609.

Excerpt from Living a Life on Loan:

“A life on loan—like every loan—is given with the expectation of a return. We are to return more than we are given. One day we will be held accountable for how we spent or invested our lives. Life begins with—and belongs to—God. Though we often speak of life and all it comprises as gifts from God, they are unique “gifts” in that, technically, they still belong to Him.

The Bible says, ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.’ (Psalm 24:1). You belong to God. The life you live comes from Him alone. One of Jesus’ followers expressed it this way: ‘You are not your own; you were bought for a price.’ (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20).

And this life on earth does not last forever. Jesus said, ‘Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life.’ (Matthew 6:27). You have a span of days that God gives you to accomplish what He has placed you on earth to do. It is up to you to use well the time you’ve been given.

Begin thinking of your life as on loan rather than as a life you own. If you won something, you are free to give it away, sell it, or exchange it with whomever you choose. But if your life belongs to someone else and is on loan to you, that changes everything. Before you give your life (or even portions of it) away, you have to check with the owner first.”

Our goal of this study is that you will get fired up about how much YOU are a part of God’s ultimate plan. Daily God wants to use YOU to meet a need, share a smile, or simply encourage another person. We are to love all people, and by doing even the smallest acts of service, the Christ in you is made real in another’s life. Remember a small deed done today could impact another person’s life for good … forever.

After this study there will be a variety of opportunities to reach outside Pointe of Hope’s walls to share God’s love with the community by intentionally serving and giving back to others. Beginning with Service Sunday, October 26th, there will be several pre-determined locations located throughout Blue Springs for everyone to Go and Serve the needs of others. We will be meeting at POH for about 20 minutes of Praise and Prayer and then we will go out and serve for 60-90 minutes ... then come back to POH for pie and a sharing of our experiences Also, as a part of this study, we want everyone to have a Pointe of Hope T-shirt to wear whenever they are doing service projects.

T-Shirt = $5.00 (We have both adult and kids sizes available)

Book + T-Shirt = $10.00

If you already belong to a Small Group, your leader will have these items available for purchase. There will also be a table set up in the Coffee House on Sunday mornings to purchase items or to join a Small Group if you don’t currently attend one.
